The Story

A Hernando County firefighter, Alex Myers, and his wife, Kierstyn, were excited to buy their first home in Homosassa, Florida, just in time to welcome their newborn daughter, Raelyn. The couple invested all their savings into the purchase, trusting that the seller, Freedom Capital Alliance, LLC, had repaired the leaks in the roof as agreed upon before closing.

However, shortly after moving in, the first rainstorm revealed that the repairs had failed. The floors swelled, water leaked through a light fixture, and moisture spread throughout the house, causing mold growth. Concerned for their baby’s health, the Myers family was forced to leave and stay with Kierstyn’s parents.

The couple had not reinspected the home after the repairs, relying on the seller’s assurance that the work was done correctly. They later discovered an Inspection Contingency Release signed by the seller, which stated the roof would be “properly installed and free of leaks.” Now, both parties have legal representation to resolve the dispute.

Safe and Sound Construction and Roofing Steps Up To Help

When Taeler, a team member at Safe and Sound Construction and Roofing, saw the news report about Alex Myers and his family, it struck a deep chord. As a firefighter, Alex had dedicated his life to helping others, yet he found himself in desperate need—not because of a storm or natural disaster, but because he had been taken advantage of.

Safe and Sound has strong ties to the firefighting community. As a roofing company founded by a retired firefighter, we knew we had to step up. Our team reached out to GAF Roofing representative Jeremiah to share Alex’s story, and he didn’t hesitate to help. GAF Roofing generously donated all the shingles and even covered additional materials to upgrade the roof to their top-tier Golden Pledge Warranty, ensuring the Myers family had long-term protection.

Next, we contacted Randall, our ABC Building Supply representative, who was equally eager to help. ABC Building Supply donated all the remaining materials needed to complete the roof—and to show even more support, Randall provided lunch for the hardworking crew on the day of the build.

With all the materials secured, Safe and Sound Construction and Roofing provided the labor and expertise to install the roof to the highest quality standards. Our skilled team worked tirelessly to ensure that the Myers family received a strong, leak-proof roof built to last.

When the project was completed, the Myers family finally had a roof that will not leak—and it didn’t cost them a penny. Now, they can begin the next step: rebuilding the interior of their home, which was severely damaged by water from the previously faulty installation.

Thanks to the generosity of GAF Roofing, ABC Building Supply, and the hard work of Safe and Sound Construction and Roofing, this family has been given a fresh start. This incredible effort is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together to support one of its own. The Myers family can now move forward with peace of mind, knowing their home is truly “Safe and Sound”.

If you’d like to help the Meyers family, a GoFundMe page has been established to help with the necessary repairs to the interior of the house resulting from the leak damage.
